Car owners started using car curtains on car windows practically at the same time as the first enclosed bodies appeared at the beginning of the 20th century. At that time such cars were considered luxury and the saloon decorating was carried out at the highest level. Car curtains were an integral part of the saloon. At those times car curtains were tailored from velvet and were more like ordinary house curtains.
You could also see the curtains on the first buses. However, they had a rather strange purpose. Made from canvas they were secured in place at the upper part of the window frame. In bad weather they were rolled down to close the window frames as the first buses were manufactured without the window glass.
For the past century the motor transport industry has made great strides. The car curtains changed as the car design changed.
And what yesterday was a prerogative of luxury car owners today becomes available to practically any car owner. At present there is a tendency in using car curtains in ordinary cars be it a jeep, minivan, station wagon or simply a sedan.
